Disrupting the Disruption
In 2019 the 4th Industrial Revolution Partnership for South Africa (4IRSA) hosted the country’s first ever Digital Economy Summit in Johannesburg. The summit brought together policy-makers, legislators, research institutes, global thought leaders, potential investors in various industries, and other stakeholders to chart a forward course for South Africa in the fast-changing digital age. It featured keynote contributions from President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, the CEOs of Telkom, Vodacom, Huawei, and many other global tech giants.
AIPX was tasked with designing not just a brand, but a movement to equip a future-ready state for the 4th Industrial Revolution in South Africa “4IRSA” – from logo and colour, to live streaming, event management and stakeholder engagement and research, 4IRSA allowed AIPX to showcase its strategic, creative and tactical strength.

Building the Brand
Our brand strategy focused on an iconic mark, representing the 4th Industrial Revolution in the context of Africa. The colour palette was bold, striking and used as a way to organise information across shared, owned and paid channels as well as sector verticals.

Insights into Innovation
A series of videos highlighting key aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution were produced to position thought leaders, engage stakeholders and drive interest in the Digital Economy Summit.
Engaging a Nation
Our media strategy saw 4IRSA dominate ATL and BTL channels in the lead up to media launches, sector-specific workshops and the Digital Economy Summit.
AIPX worked alongside journalists in a Digital Economic Summit war room to create full-day live coverage for media houses, stakeholders and the 4IRSA owned channels that garnered over 5 million impressions in 24 hours.
Amplifying Through Digital
We built, hosted and managed the 4IRSA website that housed thought leadership, partner-driven educational content and live-streams from the inaugural 4IRSA Summit alongside our event app.
The event app managed delegate check in, helped delegates choose content tracks and which workshops they attended, facilitated 1on1 networking, and content alerts tailored to the individual based on who they met, which content they engaged with and their sector vertical. It also allowed for session polls, PUSH notifications, social media integrations, partner info and a gamified leaderboard to incentivize users engagement.
President Cyril Ramaposa was holographically projected from Gallagher Convention Centre to another Government event in Mahikeng on the same day through a partnership with Nokia.
The live video feed was shared with media partners, streamed on 4IRSA’s YouTube and website and was watched over 15 000 times.
Rallying the Policy Makers
The branded event collateral used bold colour and smart typographical elements in order to create banners, event space branding, thank you gifts, and colour-coded badges for delegates who attended. We found a simple and inexpensive way to create large format signage that was both environmentally-friendly and visually impactful. A system consisting of information panels was designed. These were then printed that were then printed on light-weight recyclable board panels that could lean, float on wires or attach to the built environment through easy adhesive.
Sectoral Collaboration
Marketing and engagement campaigns were created and implemented for key sector gatherings to discuss challenges to digital transformation, technology adoption, employment and macro economic growth. Reports were then produced for each vertical:
Government and the Public Sector, ICT Sector, Financial, Business and Professional Services, Agriculture, Food and Retail.
